Neomow X, X2, and L Series mowers are equipped with a multi-layer obstacle avoidance system that combines LiDAR detection, visual recognition, and bumper protection. These systems work together to detect obstacles of different sizes and types from multiple directions and angles, enabling the mower to adopt appropriate obstacle avoidance strategies. This helps reduce the risk of collisions, protect your property, and ensure safer and more efficient mowing.
1. LiDAR Obstacle Detection
Neomow X features a LiDAR sensor that can detect obstacles approximately 10–25 cm in height, allowing the mower to recognize and avoid medium-height obstacles in its path.
2. Vision Sensor Obstacle Detection
Neomow X is also equipped with vision sensors, including cameras and infrared sensors, to capture and analyze its surroundings.
- It can detect obstacles lower than 10 cm.
- It can identify obstacles that contrast with the lawn in color, helping improve obstacle detection and avoidance performance.
3. Bumper Protection
The front bumper provides an additional layer of physical protection.
- It helps protect the mower when physical contact with an obstacle occurs.
- Although the bumper cannot prevent all collisions, it helps reduce the impact and minimize potential damage to the machine.
4. Obstacle Avoidance Behavior
When an obstacle is detected in front of the mower while it is mowing within a designated mowing area, the mower will navigate around it, maintaining a distance of at least 13 cm from the obstacle, and then return to its original mowing track to continue working.
If an obstacle blocks a passage or recharge path and prevents the mower from proceeding, the mower's response will depend on the actual situation. It may remain in place and wait for the obstacle to be removed, or continue mowing in an unobstructed area where possible.
5. Recommendations for Obstacle Avoidance
- Keep the detection area clear: Remove unnecessary obstacles from mowing areas, passages, and recharge paths to help the mower operate smoothly.
- Consider obstacle visibility: Very low obstacles or objects with colors similar to the lawn may be more difficult for the mower to detect, depending on the surrounding conditions.
- Turn off visual obstacle avoidance at night: When mowing at night, disable the visual obstacle avoidance function in the app. Otherwise, insufficient lighting may cause visual recognition errors and affect normal operation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I adjust the obstacle avoidance sensitivity?
A: Not currently. However, you can adjust the obstacle height setting in the mowing mode. For guidance, please refer to Obstacle Avoidance Height Setting.
Q: Can I turn the LiDAR obstacle avoidance on or off?
A: LiDAR obstacle avoidance is enabled by default and cannot be turned off in the app. As long as the LiDAR sensor is not covered, this system will continuously detect obstacles.
Q: Can I enable or disable vision sensor obstacle avoidance?
A: Yes. For instructions on how to enable or disable the vision sensors, please refer to How Visual Obstacle Avoidance Works.
